1. d'Arenberg (McLaren Vale, SA)

Who are they? Superb South Australian winery with a great sense of humour. Once produced a wine called DADD to rival Champagne house MUMM. Needless to say the French lawyers were just about the only ones who didn't find it hilariously funny!

Make sure you try: Any of their Grenache.

2. Feudo Arancio (Sicily, Italy)

Who are they? Modern Italian winemakers from Sicily doing great work with both classic Sicilian and international grape varieties.

Make sure you try: Nero d'Avola. Nero is one of the coolest things you can drink right now and Fuedo Arancio's is a fantastic example. Big, deliciously rich flavours that go on and on.

3. Holm Oak (Tasmania)

Who are they? Excellent winery from arguably the most exciting region in the country at the moment - Tassie. They also have 'Pinot d'Pig' (an actual real pig) as their winery General Manager, so you should expect some good humour from them too!

Make sure you try: Their Pinot Noir. We'll put it out there, Holm Oak make some of our absolute favourite Pinots from just about anywhere, with the Ilex just the most amazing bargain wine in the land.

4. Andrew Thomas (Hunter Valley, NSW)

Who are they? Boutique winemaker from the closest major wine region to Sydney. This 2014 Hunter Valley Winemaker of the Year has a reputation for some of the best, most classic wines in the Hunter.

Make sure you try: Semillon. If there is any left(!) the Braemore Semillon is excellent and this is a perfect wine for an afternoon in the sun.
